This weekend I will be performing in my final show at the University of Iowa. The Undergraduate Dance Concert features new works by undergraduate choreographers. I will be performing a contemporary solo, "Should the Shadows Come" set to a choral arrangement of The Great Doxology of the Utreniye. The piece explores doubt and is a woman's plea for guidance. I will also be performing in Emma Carson's piece, "Set my Spirit Free," with a live singer and drummer. The song was arranged by Katie Rosenberger and explores physical and emotional limitations. Tonight is opening night for the 2011 season of Dancers in Company, a touring repertory group at the University of Iowa. Our group of 12 dancers has been preparing since November to present the evening-length concert. The repertory ranges from modern to contemporary ballet. I will be performing in three of the seven pieces: "Você Não Sabe Como Eu Te Amo," choreographed by Armando Duarte, is based on a Brazilian folk story about a young woman who was abandoned by her lover. "The World and I," choreographed by New-York based French choreographer Julie Bour (see blog entry below). "Some Day," a contemporary ballet duet choreographed by Eloy Barragán for myself and my partner Steven. Our company is very excited to livestream the show on Friday, March 4th. Click on this link to watch anywhere in the world! 8:00pm Iowa time:http://its.uiowa.edu/support/digitalmedia/dance.shtml While most university students are still on winter break, a select group of dancers meets to take class and rehearse. The 13 members of Dancers In Company began rehearsals yesterday for our spring season. The pieces will be performed all around Iowa and the Midwest, on large stages, in elementary schools, and for a range of audiences. We are hoping to tour Veracruz, Mexico as well! The repertory ranges from modern to contemporary ballet.
I just began work on a contemporary ballet duet choreographed by Eloy Barragan. I will also be learning a piece by choreographer Julie Bour, and finishing work on a group piece by Armando Duarte. The repertory is proving to be interesting, challenging, and rewarding.Mark the date on your calendar for the spring show- March 3, 4, and 5th! |
